Ministry Updates

Supporting a Worthy Cause

girlsThough some may not consider it so, campus ministry is a foreign mission work. Think about it. College students have their own, ever-changing culture. Their language is different. Their dress is different. They do things that seem odd to most of us. They are their own little "tribe." (Check out this free e-book about this.)

In order to reach the foreign mission field of Sam Houston State University with the gospel of Jesus, we have rightly chosen to make a concentrated, specialize effort toward this end. The Kats for Christ campus ministry is constantly participating with God in the work of training and maturing disciples of Jesus on campus.

Seeing how God prompted the hearts of the Israelites to provide more than enough materials for the construction of the Tabernacle in the desert (Exodus 35:20ff.), we hope to give an opportunity to KFC alumni and friends to provide more than enough to sustain this ministry. We trust that God will prompt many hearts to support his work.

kfcbuildingWe've put together a brief list of all kinds of needs we have as a ministry. Some items on this list are specific, one-time needs we have; others are our important, on-going, and maintenance-type needs.

Look through all our needs and prayerfully consider providing for God's work among us as your heart prompts. With even the smallest contribution, this work will be able to extend God's kingdom on campus. Thank you very much for helping us truly be Kats for Christ.

Pizza Nights ($75 per week):

You can sponsor one of our 10-15 pizza nights for only $75. This is the social outlet where most of our unchurched students first interact with us.

retreat-groupRetreats ($50 per student):

Retreat weekends are big for us in developing and solidifying student relationships and commitment. The retreat costs around $50 per student.

Missions / Let's Start Talking ($1,300 per year):

Mission is at the heart of being a part of Kats for Christ. Whether we are serving locally, domestically, or internationally, we participate in God's mission as ones who have been sent. Please take some time to look at our LST page on our website to see what we've been up to lately. Your help will go far here.

LST_shsu4Folding Chairs ($20 per chair):

Our huge meeting room can comfortably accommodate a hundred people with the right seating. We currently have forty folding chairs that we use during our meetings. At $20 each, this investment will provide seats for more students coming this fall.

Parking at the KFC (~$6,500 One-Time):

Parking is one of the biggest issues on campus and one of our biggest issues. We are considering a parking lot in the back of the KFC. With about half this amount, we can get the job started and continue raising funds for the rest.

Advertising ($1,000 per year):

How to spread the news about Kats for Christ is an ever-changing endeavor. We advertise through our website, texting plans, flyers, and free handouts. We regularly give out free pens, candy, cookies, suckers, and donated items to get our name out on campus.

lst1Cafeteria Lunch Conversations ($150 per semester):

For about $9 a week, Chris can learn more about students over one lunch in the cafeteria than spending the whole week with them at the KFC!

Wednesday Night Suppers ($50 per month):

Once a month we celebrate that month's birthdays with a meal and cake. This is yet another chance for students to socialize and get a cheap meal.

Welcome Week Activities ($300 per year):

The first week of classes is incredibly important for students. This is when most students come around to see what we are all about. Our fun, interactive events help facilitate them getting to know each other.

devo2Computers ($2,000 One-Time):

Born in 1992, this year's freshman have always known computers. At the KFC, we offer students a place to do homework, print out assignments, check email, chat, and socialize on our computers. Students actually come around more if these are available and work well.

Sound / Projection System:

Students are on the front end of technology. We work to capitalize on technological advances without being controlled by them. With that, we hope to update our sound and video capabilities, make them secure, and get a new screen in the near future.
